PIANO ACCOMPANIST FOR JAMES & THE GIANT PEACH

Fixed term, freelance role. Live electric piano accompanist required for amateur production of James and The Giant Peach. This is the Norwich Players Christmas production 2018

Dates of role: From ASAP to 31st December (Actual production dates are 15th Dec-31st Dec)

Fee: Circa £250 flat fee - tbc dependant on whether all performances are done by one pianist or run is shared.

Description: Very basic accompaniment of five simple songs plus simple underscoring of occasional moments throughout the play. Two moments of brief comic interaction with actors. No lines. Pianist visible to audience and onstage throughout. Music is original composition by production's director. Possibility of this, particularly underscoring being developed by pianist if wished. Simple underscoring moments may benefit from a fluid, partly improvised approach in order to be fully responsive to action.

Role requirements: Role does not require great technical skill and will be easy to learn. Priority is comfortable stage presence and empathy with actions of cast and the storytelling style of the play. May suit someone with actor-musician experience or looking to gain experience. Familiarity with process of theatre production essential, and understanding of or interest in community theatre desirable.

Essential Dates: 18 performances between Sat 15th Dec and Mon 31st. The ideal is one pianist throughout. Pianist must also be available for following dress dates: Mon 10th, Tues 11th, Wed 12th, Thurs 13th, Fri 14th: 7pm-10pm At least one rehearsal the week of the 3rd Dec (rehearsals are 7-10pm, Mon-Fri) At least one meeting with the director between 29th Nov and the 5th Dec - day can be negotiated

Desirable dates: Sun 9th Dec (afternoon and evening - exact time subject to negotiation) Attendance at more rehearsals the week of the 3rd Dec Other information: All rehearsals and performances will be at the Maddermarket Theatre.
